Artist of the Week - Rachel Howard

Rachel Howard has been dancing with us since we opened in 2013. She has taken every genre of dance over the years, but has focused her training in Ballet and Pointe. We asked Rachel a series of questions to get to know her better as an artist. Here are her responses!

What grade are you in and what school do you go to? 12th Grade Senior at Clarion Area High School

What is your favorite thing about CCA?

Ms. Janet! <3

What is your favorite genre of dance?

Ballet/Pointe

Who is an Artist that inspires you?

Alex Wong... Here is a video of him performing on So You Think You Can Dance! - https://youtu.be/G8u8xPLar-E?t=66

What is your favorite memory at CCA? Getting to dance in the Disney Parade with my fellow CCA dancers in 2015.

In honor of our Recital theme for this year, what is your favorite book or story?

The Great Gatsby

Are there any achievements at CCA that you are particularly proud of?

I’m grateful for all the opportunities and memories dance and CCA have given me.

(Rachel has become an incredibly accomplished ballerina here at CCA. She started pointe at an early age and was our very first student to perform solo Ballet variations in our Recital as well as start working toward her Cecchetti VI exam... the highest level of Cecchetti a student can achieve here at CCA.)

Where are you going to college? Florida Southern College

What are some of your achievements in high school (dance related or otherwise)? Oil Region Ballet: Core de Ballet, Senior Class President, National Honor Society President, Student Council Secretary, Varsity Golf Team Captain, National Honor Society Dance Arts Events Chair, Senior High Choir, Clarion Singers, Science Olympiad, Ben Carson Scholar, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, and Valedictorian of my Senior class!

How has dance helped you over the years? Dance has been a huge part of my life since age three. I’ve learned many lessons that I use both inside and outside of the classroom.

How will dance continue to be in your life after high school? I hope to continue my dance career throughout my college years by participating in opportunities through Florida Southern College and the Lakeland community.

Why do you think other kids should take dance and be involved in the performing arts? It teaches invaluable lessons and is a whole lot of fun!

Thank you, Rachel, for being such an incredible role model here at Clarion Center for the Arts. We appreciate the mark you've made on our teachers and the students that follow you. Best of wishes on your next journey in life! Come back and visit often! :-)
