Job Post - Junior Musical Director
Clarion Center for the Arts is seeking an energetic theatre director to guide students in 2nd-8th grade in their annual Summer Junior Musical program that takes place February through June.
The program meets for two hours a week on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 and is co-taught with two other instructors.
The role we are seeking to fill is that of director who will block scenes and coach kids in acting. The other co-teachers will handle choreography, music direction and the wrangling and organizing of students.
We use Music Theatre International's junior musical kits, making it very easy for instructors to follow detailed guidelines for creating a successful production.
The Director's responsibilities include...
Preparing blocking prior to each rehearsal
Teaching blocking to students at each weekly rehearsal
Coaching kids in acting techniques
Assisting parents with costume and set ideas (parents are responsible for constructing costumes and sets)
Keeping it fun for students!
The Director should...
Have experience working with kids
Have experience in theatrical productions
Be energetic and fun
Directors are paid at the completion of the production. Compensation will be negotiated with the applicant based on experience. Minimum compensation is $500.
Performances will take place June 25th, 26th and 27th at The Sawmill Center for the Arts in Cook Forest, PA. In addition to Thursday rehearsals from 5:30-7:30 beginning February, there will be Tuesday rehearsals from 5:30-7:30 in June and technical rehearsals from 5:00-8:30 on June 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
